Hey Shawn (not sure if this is you or not).

I'm pretty sure those patches require the yamaha editor unless they're sysex/MIDI.  I think they're saved in a proprietary format.  You can find the editor on the Yamaha website as well as the files section within this group.  Now the problem comes that the editor only works with Windows so you'd probably have to run it through a virtual machine.  Skype Peter to get my contact info and I'll walk you through it.

Cheers,
Joey.

A few things to try and help...

1st, regarding an-factory - I installed it on my '09 MacBook w/ OS X 10.6.8, but can't get a working connection with the AN1x using either the MIDI Interface on my Kore 1 controller or my standby Emagic MT4. Not sure where the problem is as both work just fine with SysEx Librarian, Logic, Live, etc. If figure out the offset from the default timeout intervals to establish a solid connection to the AN1x I will share the settings with you.

2nd, the MarcE sound bank is made up of .an1 sounds and an-factory will open them correctly. The archive uploaded to the AN1x-list also contains the identical files in .MID format. However, when I created that archive I'd used the Mac version of AN1x-Edit and, unfortunately, I now recall Gary Gregson informing there is a bug in the .MID export feature of AN1x-Edit for Mac. So, those .MID files are useless as they stand right now. I'd created them to help users like you, and myself, access the files easily. My bad.

3rd, I wil try to make time this coming weekend to put up a copy of AN1x-Edit for Win (I've sold my old PPC) and start again, i.e. export the native .AN1 files as .MID and/or .SYX so you can use something like SysEx Librarian to load and save voices to the AN1x.

regards,

Jon

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in replying, but I have been out of circulation for a while in the Australian outback!

an.factory will not allow you to export data to the AN1x unless you have registered it and received a license file that unlocks the File Save and MIDI export features. But you don't say what the problems with an.factory are that you are experiencing. If you can be a little more specific, then I may be able to help! :-) an.factory has been tested on an iMac (OSX 10.4.4 off the top of my head!). It will probably be getting more Mac testing in the new year, as I will probably start moving to a Mac platform for development.

I can't help on MIDIQuest ;-)

The files themselves from www.marce-music.com are AN1 format files, which is the file format created by Gary Gregson for AN1xEdit.

You can still download AN1xEdit for Mac (and PC) from this site, or from http://www.yamahasynth.com/downloads/drivers_software/synthesizers/an1x/editor/ but whether or not it will work on modern macs, I don't know.

Hi, Jon

Re an.factory and your problems on Mac, have you installed the Mandolane SPI, which allows Java applications to see external MIDI devices?

an.factory does work on the Mac I had access to for testing (OSX 10.4.4), so hopefully Apple haven't broken anything!

Cheers
Derek

Hey Derek!

The problem is user error. Decided on a change of pace and ... read the user manual. Would be helpful if I bought a license to unlock the MIDI Transfer feature, don't you think? Will take care of that in short order....

Ooops.

Hi, Jon

No worries. What was the problem, and do I need to make the PDF manual clearer?

Cheers

Re: MarcE AN1X sound banks

The web page http://www.xfactory-librarians.co.uk/registration.html is pretty clear - aside from a flashing neon sign, I don't think you can attract user's attention any further if they're unwilling to slow down and read :-)

Regarding the app itself - maybe an obnoxious splash screen - DEMO MODE - NO MIDI - until it's registered. But that may give the appearance of an unseemly money grab where none is intended (particularly on a niche market app.)

Regarding the application itself, a quick question - why does the app install xfactory.librarians at /Users/jonlevinson? This appears odd to me - why wouldn't it be installed in /Users/Library/Application Support?

Regards,

Jon

Actually, now you've stated the blindingly obvious to me :-), some sort of DEMO mode tag in the title bar would be useful.

As to the install location, it might be my lack of knowledge on macs and the done thing for where to put programs. I'm no Mac expert (but will be getting one soon).

Cheers
Derek
