OK ...I'm Stumped...PLG150AN + An1xEdit +Hubi's issues...Help Please

Are 850Mhz CPU's too fast for Hubi's (16bit) and Midi Yoke(32bit)
therefore causing some of the data to get lost or truncated? Because
I have been battling to get the PLG150AN to load up properly going on
2 months now. So far I've got it down to this ...With An1xEdit in
PLG150AN mode, An1xEdit using Hubi's LB1 out.... an instance of
hwmdcabl.exe with LB1 in ...SW1000XG#1 out. I double-click a voice
from the "Yamaha_Best_Of.an1" voice list, I either get no sound or a
completely different sound from the intended sound. I can verify this
by choosing SW1000XG#1 as the output of AN1xEdit ...double-click any
voice and it sounds correct. I've tried refreshing the XG device from
XGedit first and then refreshing the PLG150AN from the An1xEdit with
no luck. MidiYoke tends to detune everything or simply messes up the
voice so badly that its not recognizable. I've monitored this with
MidiOx (LB1,MidiYoke1.... separately) and I can see all the Hex. I
wish there was some way to see the Hex going into the SW1000XG#1
driver but AFAIK there are no tools for the "layman" to see this data
for comparison purposes. I would sure like to be working on
my "chops" rather than fighting these kinds of problems. I'm trying
to get some "repeatability" here because there is nothing worse than
spending hours tweaking a masterpiece...saving it ...recall
it ...doesn't even remotely sound like what I had saved if I'm using
Hubi's or MidiYoke. I sure wish someone could help me with these
issues for it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks for reading this message,

Gary Osborne

No...the speed of CPU is irrelevant....its only software.

The problem here is not the virtual drivers (Hubis/MIDIYoke) but the
application that is thruing the data between the virtual driver and the real
SW1000 driver. The sysex messages used by AN for voice dumps include some
very large packets (around 4 Kbytes). However most software apps use small
sysex buffers (around 512 -> 2K bytes) for MIDI thru. The result is that the
larger messages get discarded or corrupted! Hence the voice corruption.

The solution would be to increase the sysex buffer size used for thruing
sysex in your application (unfortunately very few applications provide such
control...although MIDIOX does)

That said, the version of Hubis Hwmdcable.exe I use (V2.3) appears to work
fine.

However in your case I would question why you are using the Hwmdcable.exe at
all. Since the latest SW1K drivers are multiclient for output (only), you
should be able to just connect your sequencer and An1xEdit directly to
SW1000#1 without a conflict problem.

The only reason I can think of is that you are maybe attempting to overcome
the sysex thru bug of Logic 4.x :-(
