When you flip it over, rest the top on something that won't damage the knobs (I use a couple of stragetically placed paperback books). The battery is the silver disc, about the size of a quarter; pops right out of the battery holder. Go buy one with the same number, pop it in. They're most commonly used as "security system" batteries these days, so hardware stores usually have them.
