regular AN1x patch-challenge

regular AN1x patch-challenge

2000-02-10 by joel

I have this idea:

Why don't we have some sort of like
a friendly challenge in the creation of various sounds
every now and then, where every once in a while someone
comes up with an idea, for let's say: a funky organ sound,
a highat sound, a snare, a bassdrum, who can make the 'nicest'
airy pad, or droney bassey pad, psychedelic pad? and so on! :)
This can be VERY handy if someone is looking for a specific sound,
but doesn't have time to create a variety of different 'species' ;)
of the same sound. And at the same time we are building a nice database
of an1x sounds, which could become handy at ANY TIME :)
Ofcourse, this is not a competition you HAVE to participate in... it is
just
for funt, if you have some extra time on your hands, and if you feel
like twiddling up some new sounds :)

My idea is as follows:
We can do this on let's say a regular basis, let's say every month
a new topic, OR whenever someone has an idea they can post ahead, and
we'll read it on the list and participate if we want.

How does this sound to you all? I thought it was a VERY nice idea. :)

If there's any reactions to this, i will read them on the list.

Cheers
Joel

Joel,Very good idee,I'm in for it.I remember the same for the korg-prophecy.
Sometimes only the name of a patch was given,f.i. Forbidden Planet and
you could use your imagination. They also make a "Bank of the year" by voting
for the "best" patches and make a bank of it,as .mid-file.(universal for all).

Cool.
Though i've never used .mid to transfer patches to my synth,
always use the "standard" synth protocol (in the an1x's case: .an1)
But perhaps some time you could explain it. :)
I would be afraid to mess up or even lose my own patches, (yes i know, i should
make a backup first i guess, haven't done that so far though.. so that's going to
be a first time too, for the an1x at least), but besides that, i thought .mid was
generally meant to be used only as songs for midisequencer programs or hardwarez
midisequencers.

Hi Joel,

So to say,if you have found "the ultimate" voice and you like to share it
with others
in the form of **.an1,then you have to send a whole bank with one ultimate and
127 initvoices total 220Kb.The simple form_.MID file or_.SysEx file is in
that case very
useful, mostly less in bytes. My experience is that on the WWW.you can find
lots of synth-
patches imbedded in banks in all kinds of formats due to the different editors
and that for PC and Mac.So I prefer in that case the universal .MID form.
BUT in this case I agree with you because there is the beautiful Yamaha
AN1xEdit 1.02
for free, for PC and Mac with saved bankdata interchangeable!Double klick on
the patch-
name sends this patch to both editmemory's,computer and synth.Select a
patch and <send>,
you overwrite the patch in the synth with the same number. As you already
should know.
Of course you can save single patchdata without a number as sysexfile in a
homemade lib.
I find all this not so important as the fact that we can share our work on
the AN1x.
So let's do that.

Regards,Joop

Okay, .an1 will be the standard for this list then?
(I've seen other lists use their own synths standards also (.pch for the Nord
modular))
'standard' in this case means most preferred then, i suggest.
