Since a VA synth is digital, I've always thought the AN1X should have a mode that allows timbral differences from the filter and resonance changes without the icepick volume changes. The other day I was practicing with the other Space Animal and I realized that of course Yamaha had designed that, it was right in plain sight--use the onboard compressor. Only took me ten years to figure it out. Jimmy
