Triggering the AN1X Step Sequencer from an External Keyboard

Triggering the AN1X Step Sequencer from an External Keyboard

2010-01-27 by edzealous

Hi, I was wondering if I can trigger the step sequencer patterns in my AN1X with an external Synth (ext synth being the sound generator). Specifically i'm trying to trigger step seq patterns in an AN1X from a Virus TI and have them sound on the Virus TI. At the moment I can only seem to trigger them if I use the AN1X keyboard. Any ideas if this is even possible?

Sorry to re-post but does anyone know if this can be done??? Trying to sort this out urgently for a few gigs happing in the next two weeks and I'm no further on. I'm comming to the conclusion that its impossible but it would be great to get a definitive answer.

Many thanks,

Steve

My understanding of the sequencer is that it can only be triggered from
the keyboard. I remember coming across some posts, either on this list,
or just out there on the internets on the same subject.

The sequencer will send out midi data, but it cannot be triggered over
midi. Check the AN1x manual starting from page 37 (english version).
There's no mention of MIDI-triggered sequencing, only keyboard based
triggering.

Hope to have helped.

Kind regards,

Gerald

read the manual if the keyboard can trigger the sequence the midi notes should also i know you can set the clock to external audio so ythat it tracks in time to an drum machine or external sequencer

but it will only play the sequence loaded for that preset it cant control the sequencer so that you can change it on the fly it will only play the sequence thats in memory you can change the sequence but it will only play the sequence that is already programed that you change to

your problem is that your playing the notes on the ti trying to trigger the ti sound to the an1x sequence

it would be all right if you played the an1x triggering the ti as when you play the notes on the an1x the ti will play the sequence notes of the an1x output you would need the midi out into the midi in of the ti

by trying to do it with the ti is that you are pressing the notes that are trigering the an1x which sequence is running but becuase you are holding down the notes on the ti the sound is playing but not the sequence this is becuase the ti cant retrigger notes that are already pressed this is imposible for any keyboard to do

have you tried switching the ti to omni off so that it oly responds to external midi so that a external source can control the the synth and not the onboard keyboard i dont have a ti but i can do this on the quasimidi 309 drummachine synth

[AN1x] Re: Triggering the AN1X Step Sequencer from an External Keyboard

2010-01-31 by edzealous

Hey thanks for the all the info dudes. I actually got this working (sort of) today. I'll post up all the correct settings tomorrow when i'm in front of the keys, but it was setting the TI to 'Soft Thru'that got it working. The only problem is that though the sequence will trigger from the TI, i'm able to play over the sequence, whereas if I triggered it from the AN1X I wouldn't. The only way I can fix this is if I set the Seq to 'Hold' which I'd rather not do as I can't figure out how I'd stop it from the TI.....
All these problems because the £1850 TI doesn't have a bleedin step sequencer!

Thanks again,

Steve

[AN1x] Re: Triggering the AN1X Step Sequencer from an External Keyboard

2010-02-07 by edzealous

Indeed it does, frying my head right now.... I was wondering one final thing.... Is it possible to use my Virus TI to send Midi CC data to stop the sequencer on the AN1X??? Just to explain my problem: I can currently set this up in two ways:
1) If keep the An1X sequencer set 'hold' it operates the way I want (ie: I can't play over the sequence) but I can't figure out how to stop the sequence.
2) An1X is not set to 'hold'. When its set this way I can stop the sequence when I want but when I play a sequence from the Virus TI it plays whatever note i'm playing as well as the sequence.

Basically I want to hit a key on the Virus and trigger a sequence on the AN1X and then be able to stop it again from the Virus. Is this possible? and if so any ideas how I can do it????

Again, many thanks for any help you can offer.

Best wishes
Steve

look at the cc parameter that switches the sequencer on and off and assign it to a button on the virus as a continuios controller if you can do that on the virus dont know

RE: [AN1x] Re: Triggering the AN1X Step Sequencer from an External Keyboard

2010-02-08 by Ed Edwards

Sorry about the delayed reply.

I think it has something to do with a different “mode” setting on the
keyboard. If you have the smaller accompaniment manual that came with the
AN1x it describes this second mode and what it is able to do.

Keyboard

Hey thanks for the all the info dudes. I actually got this working (sort of)
today. I'll post up all the correct settings tomorrow when i'm in front of
the keys, but it was setting the TI to 'Soft Thru'that got it working. The
only problem is that though the sequence will trigger from the TI, i'm able
to play over the sequence, whereas if I triggered it from the AN1X I
wouldn't. The only way I can fix this is if I set the Seq to 'Hold' which
I'd rather not do as I can't figure out how I'd stop it from the TI.....
All these problems because the £1850 TI doesn't have a bleedin step
sequencer!

Thanks again,

Steve

Specifically i'm trying to trigger step seq patterns in an AN1X from a Virus
TI and have them sound on the Virus TI. At the moment I can only seem to
trigger them if I use the AN1X keyboard. Any ideas if this is even possible?

[AN1x] Re: Triggering the AN1X Step Sequencer from an External Keyboard

2010-02-14 by edzealous

Thanks again for all the replies. Couldn't quite figure out how do that on the Virus but I managed a simple workaround for this one: If I trigger 'All Notes Off' on the Virus the sequencer stops....voila!

Having one final problem though. I'm trying to configure the set up so that when I make program changes on the Virus the AN1X changes with it. i.e: say I change from RAM-A 0 to RAM-A 1 on the Virus, I want the AN1X to change from 000 to 001. At the moment it works back to front, I can change a preset on the AN1X and the Virus will change too.....but not the other way around.....which is what I want. However i'm not quite sure whether this is a setting on the Virus or the AN1X.
Any ideas???

Hey thanks again for the reply. I got an answer from Access on this one. Apparently none of the Virus line sends out Program Change messages.......agggggh!

Hey thanks again for the reply. I got an answer from Access on this one. Apparently none of the Virus line sends out Program Change messages.......agggggh!

[AN1x] Re: Triggering the AN1X Step Sequencer from an External Keyboard

2010-02-17 by edzealous

Hey sorry to batter on at the same subject but one final question: Is it possible for me to make Program Changes on the AN1X with one of the footswitches/controllers??? Its just that atm i'm relying on our drummer to change programs on the AN1X during gigs (as its kept off stage) and though it works, its not an ideal scenario.
Thanks again for all your time,

Steve
