USB - MIDI adapter

USB - MIDI adapter

2010-01-19 by Jeff

Hi folks !
i've heard that some of these does not work well (or not at all) with
AN1xEdit, is it true or another urban legend ?
I run AN1xEdit on a PC with XP pro , and have no longer any soundcard
with the MIDI - games port. I intended to buy an EMU X MIDI 2x2 or
something similar.
Thank you for the advice and

Jeff

definately not urban legend, most USB to MIDI interfaces do not work with AN1xEdit. I use an Ederiol UM-2EX on a laptop with Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3 and have no problems. These are relatevly inexpensive, less than 50 US dollars. I also have a Tapco Link.MIDI 4x4 which I wanted to use, costs over 100 US Dollars, but it doesn't work. This topic has been well covered over the years, should be much info in the archives.

I've had luck with the MOTU fastlane 2x2, I had problems with the interface built into my Tascam US-122.

Take care,

I use an M-audio ( midiman ) 2x2 and a 4X4 and they both work fine, I also use a MOTU USB express 128 and have had no problems.

I had mixed results with M-Audio USB MIDI interfaces on Mac OS X - unreliable with bulk dumps but they worked fine with a few Voices at a time. The discontinued Emagic MT4 has been completely reliable for me.

Hi,

My AN1x is connected to a port on my MOTU MIDI Express 128, which is a USB interface. Whilst I don't use AN1xEdit all that much, I have certainly used it to get bulk dumps from the AN1x and onto mu PLG150-AN

Cheers

Aw man. Dont tell me that the Tascam US-122 doesnt work with ANix edit. I just got the updated US-122L as a midi interface to work with my ANix and Windows XP. I'll have to hook it all up and try it all out ASAP....

Hi,

@Jon: Why did you go away from the MT4?

AND (to stay ontopic :-)
I'm using a system of also discontinued Unitor8/AMT8s and all works fine.
Windows XP SP2 btw. I love how these buggers just are stackable to form
one big MIDIinterface, and you can hook up up to 16 of them in two lines
(12 so far in my system)
This will be my major reason not to go away from XP for audio/MIDI for
another while.

The EMU Xmidi 2x2 works fine for me as well, but I only got it as a
copyprotectiondongle for the Emulator X2. My MT4 is my tool for wherever I
need MIDI on whichever computer (like MacBooks or my PClaptop)

@Jeff: So the MT4 IMHO might be a thing to be looked after on ebay to fit
your purposes.

Actually, I began with an M-Audio USB then went back to a serial port Opcode because the USB transfers were so unreliable. When I switched to newer Mac I picked up a 2nd hand MT4 which I've found to be very reliable - and stuck with it! I had a 2nd M-Audio at one point - don't recall why - and so I tried it with the more current drivers and found it much improved over the previous version, but not as trouble free as the MT4 :-)
