2 x PLG150-AN for 10 note polyphony?

2 x PLG150-AN for 10 note polyphony?

2009-12-29 by apuhjee

Is this possible? Maybe with a little time spent splitting a patch between the two cards?

I've got a free slot in my CS6x and want to fill it before these cards all disappear.

Cheers ~ jp

Shameless bump. I'd love to hear from anyone using two PLG150-AN's.

Thnaks.

I've used as many as 3 in my Motif ES.

You can operate in one of two global modes.

The first (default) is that each card is usable as a separate 5-voice synth (for sequencing, splits or layers). This is how I used them most of the time.

The second is "poly expand" where the cards act as a single synth with 10 or 15 voices, all playing the same patch (the cards to have the same user patches loaded).

If you have more specific questions, let 'em rip.

Woah ... never heard of this 'poly expand' feature, which sounds -exactly- like what I'm looking for. A "super synth" patch would sound oh so much better with 10/15 voices rather than 5. Do you know i this is limited to the Motif implementation? I use a CS6x.

Yes, you can use the polyphonic expansion on a CS6X.

From the PLG150-AN manual:

POLYPHONY : 5 notes maximum (latest note priority; polyphony is expandable *1)
*1 Depending on the particular "mother" device, up to eight additional
boards can be installed, for a total of 40-note polyphony. On the CS6x,
for example, two boards can be installed for a maximum of 10 notes; on
the MU128, three boards can be installed for a maximum of 15 notes.

Well, I have 2 PLG150-AN installed into my S90ES just to obtain a 10 voice polyphony.

They reside into slot 2 and 3 respectively.

To be honest it's not a piece of cake obtaining a 10 voice polyphony, although the Poly Expand is always set to ON.
Due to the fact that I'm always using bank 036/002 (RAM) and I'm forced to load a bulk dump for both boards, it takes some trial and errors before everything works.
In other words I have to switch off and on Poly Expand two or three times until the boards "accept" the new settings.
When everyhing goes ok, you have a powerful engine at your fingertips.

On the opposite side, there are many advantages of having the two boards independent.
Think about having two independent arpeggiators that go in sync with the host one.
