yes you can, sorta... you can put two of them into a host synth, and then
load the same patches onto both of them, and then split the keyboard in
half... but afaik there's no way to make voices fall over between an cards

Re: Double Plg in a motif rack es

Hi, I think there is no reason why you can't do this and you can treat each board, depending on how you program the PLG voices (in each bank for the PLG card), as two 5 voice voice layers or one 10 voice synth. It's still not quite an AN1x though!

If you wanted a 10 voice synth, both cards would need the same data stored to them, and each PLG voice bank on the host synth would need the same PLG voice data.

I have an AN1x and also PLG150-AN in a Motif ES Rack, and personally I wouldn't ditch the AN1x. It's much easier to program voices on the AN1x and then transfer them for use on the PLG150-AN.

Cheers
Derek

Ok thanx Derek so you think that one plgAN is enough ?!:)

Hi,

It suits me, as I don't have to gig my AN1x (yet), but then I also have an EX5 (with a mono/duophonic version of the AN1x) and a Nord G2 Engine for my VA options! :-)

Cheers
Derek

Hi, it may depend on the host. you're comment reminded me that Brad Webber had mentioned in a reply to me on PLG Support that the Motif ES has a "poly expand" mode, which effectively allows you to join two identical boards to share the note load.

Cheers

So the Motif Es can do this trick?
and If I put two plg an...in what case ore in what situation the 2 PLG can't sound like an AN1x?

Re: Double Plg in a motif rack es

from what I know, the 2 PLG cards can't sound like an AN1x in every situation because they don't sound like an AN1x in any situation. they are similar, but not exactly the same. the subtle differences might not matter to you, or to me or anyone else for that matter, but every post I've ever read on this topic over the years talks about the differences. Kinda like the Jennifer Flowers/Monica Lewinski comparision during the Clinton years. Close but no cigar. : )

Hi,

Check out the PolyExpand Switch on Page 91 of the ES Rack manual. :-)

As the previous poster mentioned, it is indeed worth bearing in mind that there are subtle differences between Yamaha's AN implementations on the AN1x, EX5 and PLG150-AN, so things won't always necessarily come out the same, and of course the effects architectures are different on all synths which will probably have a large impact, and in the case of the PLG150AN, then a lot depends on the capabilities of the host. One day when I'm completely bored (so not likely for a while), I might update motif.factory or an.factory to create PLG voices from AN1x voices that map the AN1x to PLG/Motif ES format as close as possible.

Cheers
Derek
