Haven't had a chance to try it (my computer is down) but it seems you
should be able to use the free eg as an lfo to control the filter (or
anything else for that matter). AN1x edit has nice predrawn curves, and
you can set the free eg to do bars and beats so you should be able to
get a good rhythm going. Set the tempo to midi and it should synch up
pretty close to your recording.

If you want a low tech approach to get an lfo for the filter--push the
button so you're in mx vcf mode, then turn the fmod depth knob. You'll
change how lfo 1 affects the filter. Jon has an lfo to bpm chart here
on the list click on the files section and you'll find it.
