.mid --to--> .syx .ans .an1 .an2 without AN1x ?

2008-03-01 by Juan Pablo Cuervo

Hi,

is its possible to translate .mid AN1x syxex to .an files without AN1x ?
ive tryed with virtual midi cables and all kinds of softwares with partial results

my An Expert stand alone Editor crashes when reciving an "all patches" an1x bulk dump from .mid sysex with sonar Le & midiyoke

the AN Editor for XGworks lite v3 does not have AN1x bulk import like the standalone
Midi-Ox does no understand .mid with syxex
Sonar Le exports sysex from .mid but not complete/fractioned
AnExpertEditor StandAlone works Ok if i send 1-patch .syx from midi-ox with midi-yoke nt
AN1xEdit v1.1 exports but does not import .mid ? crazy if you ask me...
also does not detect/receive .mid AN1x bulk dumps from midi-ox or sonar Le,
im mising something here ?
Soundquest midi tools detect the Midiyoke its working Ok
the www.nerds.be LoopBe1 sems it does not transmit sysex..
but the midi-ox does not have the cool "mute" button of LoopBe1...
anyway...
has someone done it without the AN1x?
i just want to translate all patches for An1x in .mid files to .an files without purchasing an AN1x

Thanks

Hi,

My AN1x librarian, an.factory, which you can find over at
www.xfactory-librarians.co.uk , can import both SYX and MID files as
well as AN1 files. I could easily add a feature to allow you to save
SYX and MID files as AN1 files.

You need to register to enable saving of data, but the registration
cost is (I think) reasonable. Further details can be found on the website.

Take a look at an.factory if you haven't already done so, and let me
know if you wish me to add this feature.

Regards
Derek

Because the Device ID for the AN1x is not what AN200 Editor or AN Expert Editor is
expecting to see.

But there are differences between some parameters so what you get ising AN Expert Editor
may not be what was intended, i.e. dual scene's, morphing, fx settings, etc.

> AN1xEdit v1.1 exports but does not import .mid ? crazy if you ask me...

It was not intended to be a Generic Librarian - why should it have .mid import? I can
imagine the questions "why can't I use a .mid file from my Roland JP8000 in AN1xEdit?"

Re: [AN1x] Re: .mid --to--> .syx .ans .an1 .an2 without AN1x ?

2008-03-02 by Juan Pablo Cuervo

Hi,

#1.
thats easy, i can edit the sysex manually
to make it see right Device ID.
ill try that one first

#2. AN1x to AN200/plg150-an
close enough its enoght for me
i just want to get the idea/starting point, and build something with creativity from that..
i like to create sounds by tweaking sounds i dont like

#3.
Yes... you guess right..
if you like to know exactly what im doing::::

its to hear how it sounds::
Kenton Plugstation+an200/plg150-an/dx200/plg150-dx --->adat--->Lynx Ls-adat--->Aes16--SynchroLock(TM) 3000:1--->hi-quality DA converter::
lavry da10, mytek dac96, altmann, lucid da2496, 888/24 that works in stand alone , most dont
the benchmark dac1 sounds too me a bit over colored "too much warmth"
uaudio.com 2192, blacklionaudio.com saprrow new dacs
& "my secret weapon"
etc...
---->hi-quality AD
and test/hear A/B

i wanna hear/know if the yamaha an* magic its in the DA like lexicon 480L, analog I/Os vs. aes/ebu
just curiosity + "too much time on my hands" -styx

original "pure digital adat recorded"
vs.
an200 analog outs DA + an200 jitter, hi-quality recorded
vs.
Kenton plugstation analog outs DA + kenton jitter, hi-quality recorded

listening with hi-quality DA
...
i dont like most VAs becouse the lack of digital outs, digital synth without digital outs? thats crazy if you ask me...

VAs & synths & AD/DAs or mics, are like apples & grapes, some like red some like green
for example i dont like most waldorf synths, and most Virus-B patches
but i like matrix-1000, but i dont like the most of the sounds of arp 2600 or tb303 and i had both but i like Sem
i think making music its like making chinese food
lots of diferent small flavors, not all chinese fool tastes the same "im hungry"
or like perfumes

and for the unknown "quality" analog circuit DA & the unknown "bad" wordclock jitter
for example:
Korg ms2000/b/r/br/microKorg
vs.
Korg KLC-Analog Edition that sounds great
...
but... i dont like softwares becouse i cant feel them...
...
but... i dont like real analog becouse the repairs, the paint falling, the parts rotten, the soon to need repair feeling, the high price, etc...
...
but.. i dont like most sample refills & sample CDs of analog synths, specially zero-g nostalgia
becouse most are recorded with unknown AD & unknown jitter
most sound like crap...
i just hear my ex- linndrum lm-2 sampled with motu2808mk2 48k-24bis
vs. all internet free samples i could find vs. z-g nostalgia and they all sound totally diferent
with same drum machine!
...
im just crazy...
i like to do those A/B tests.. instead of making music...
i feel like an small satisfaction when i learn something, i feel easy like i acomplish something when i do A/B tests... then i feel more cuirosity for something else related
thats something i dont feel easy with making music alone...
i just wanna find 2 or 3 really cool sounds to do the tests
and also want to know if im missing something... i dont like to feel like im incomplete or missing something within my reach

Thanks

Juan,

Just to keep it short and sweet:

1. The AN1x is 11 years old. You need to keep your expectations of its
technology based upon 1997 criteria instead of 2008.

2. It seems the best advice for you to just go ahead and _buy_ yourself an
AN1x to demo it and see if it is what you want rather than try to jump
through a lot of conversions. If you don't like it, sell it off.

I realize that most younger musicians live in the world of virtual synths...
I completely understand the desire to have it all small, all in one system
and all under the control of one operating system. That would be a really
great world for a composer to live in. I hope I have the money to live
there someday.

CS6x plg150-an card file --to--> .syx .ans .an1 .an2 without CS6x ?

2008-03-09 by Juan Pablo Cuervo

Hi,

CS6x + plg150-an card file --to--> .syx .ans .an1 .an2 without CS6x ?

#1. want to buy the vengeance-sounds soundset for CS6x + plg15O-an + SmartMedia card, but i dont wanna buy a CS6x + a SmartMedia card

http://www.vengeance-sound.com/eng/Detailscs6x.html
"This Soundset is not compatible to the "real" An1x"
sucks!!!

i dont see anywhere that translating the patches to AN200 Expert Editor
breaks the copyrights (c)(p)
since it will never be 1OO% exactly, no matter what, becouse the effects
since its basically the same plg150-an

maybe with the SQ editor librarian: ?
http://www.squest.com/Windows/Instruments/YamahaCS6x/index.html

#2. the keyfax regenerator for plg150-an does not seem that great... or its the .mp3 demos?
http://secure.keyfax.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=VRegenerator

anyone here has it ? what do you think about it?
the .mp3 demos does not sound that attractive vs. vengeance sound .mp3 demo
same plg150-an !!!
...more? where ?

#3. thanks for all the great ideas but... i dont wanna buy an An1x or Cs6x becouse the jitter and fixed DA = no digital out
im happy with the kenton plugstation + lynx aes16+ls-adat combo + great DA
but..
working with digital hardware the clock sync/lock becomes a nightmare without SRC, becouse most digital devices not have a wordclock input, like kenton p.s. or roland varios
exeptions are the roland v-synth xt has a s/pdif input or access virus ti has s/pdif input

i think to save $$, and maybe buy an adat--to-->aes/ebu with w.c. input + src

like rme adi 8 dd/4dd, alesis ai-4 , etc... + a dramwmer m-clock SRC or mytek SRC, z-sys z-link96+ with clock input, lucid src9624 or a Lynx aes16e-src "pci-e" has 16src = the most cheap & complete souluttion, the aes16-src "pci "only has 8 src

the Adat+Aes SRC box "rme adi 192 dd" its too much $$$, but... its the all in one box
anynway.. im a bit worried about the SRC hardware quality by looking graphs like this::
www.bias-inc.com/products/peakPro5/resampling/peakResamplingWhitePaper.pdf
or this...
http://www.izotope.com/tech/src/

Havent found a graph like that, in hardware like: Lynx Aes16-SRC vs. others like: behringer SRC2496, behringer src2000, Lucid SRC9624, Z-sys z2src, Z-Sys Z3src, Z-Sys z-link96+, Rme adi 192 dd, tc electronic finalizer plus/96k, drawmer m-clock, Weiss, dbx quantum, Emu E-dsp, others...
im so eager to test src in hardware "realtime"
i remember the tc finalizer plus was a good up-src from 44.1k to 48k

#4. kenton plugstation+plg150-an owners here?

incredible, no kenton plugstation in youtube !!
only if i had a good camera...

Thanks

I think this point was talked to death on the CS6x list here at Yahoo! Groups. You should
check in there and search their archives.

RE: [AN1x] Re: .mid --to--> .syx .ans .an1 .an2 without AN1x ?

2008-03-10 by Jeff

Hello!
to add a little more to Ed's mail, ask you one question: is the music or the technology used to produce it the most important?
You know (for sure!!) that the technology of most of the instruments is very old, sometimes as old as mankind. Archeologists have found a flute* (ca 20 000 years old..) in the Isturitz cave somewhere between France and Spain (i don't remember exactly where it is). Most of today's instruments, except the piano, the saxophones and of course all electronic instruments, were known and used by J.S. Bach. Of course some were a bit upgraded since the XVII century, but strings, woodwinds, percussions... are basically the same.
Aside to these considerations you surely know the "vintage fashion" (madness?) that has invaded the little world of guitar or keyboards players; or the "holy grail" of "historical instruments" for some classical musicians, wishing to play "exactly as the composer" with accurate replicas of centuries old violins or organs?
On another hand electronics and programmation can be very exciting in themselves. So you have to decide : sound, or synthesis power, tenths of voices of polyphony and "user friendly" interface?
OK, the AN1x is not some vintage Moog, but it is more "user friendly", more reliable, less expensive. OK today's synths can be more powerful in terms of synthesis and polyphony. But AN1x is at least worth trying.
Cheers

*The original being broken but complete a fully functionnal replica was build (not by me of course!) with the same kind of bone; curiously it sounded a bit like an irish tin whistle (!)... made with a large bird's wingbone it was narrow, made in a very hard material and of similar size. But i was at first surprised, thinking it may sound like traditional south american or asian flutes. But they're larger and mostly made with bamboos.
OK, sorry for the prehistoric flute test !!
