Help! I'm a TOTAL newb ^_^

Help! I'm a TOTAL newb ^_^

2008-02-05 by shaunlane303

Well, i suppose you've guessed by the thread title that i need some
help!
I'm Shaun from Portsmouth in the UK age 37.
To cut a long story short, i'm a huge fan of electronic music from
early Kraftwerk/Eno through to electro and everything from
experimental noise, Vangellis, acid/techno/house to William Orbit
Aphex Twin and Boards Of Canada. Im a dj at heart so the list is
endless.
I've always been into old analogue synths, never owned one, and
maybe 10 years ago the JP8000 started this whole thing off. I used
to read Future music every month and salivate over all this new
technology. I used a sampler on my old ST and Amiga and generally
arsed around using my DJ setup and old zoom effects for crazy
feedback malarky.
Long story, i know, please bear with me ;)
Anyway, i got married had a greak kid and forgot about my musical
dreams.
Went on Ebay a couple of weeks ago and typed in AN1X, one came up,
my heart pounding, bid for it and won it!!!
It turned up yesterday and its great but i haven't got a CLUE about
how to get the best out of it. The control panel looks complicated
*shivers*
What software do i NEED. I have a pc running xp, can you recommend
some a piece of hardware to make the software talk to the synth, how
do i download patches, banks, anything!!!LOL
Like i said, i have this monster synth sitting there with a baby at
the controls, any help or advice would be really welcome to someone
with a great passion for twiddling and tweaking sounds but no
knowlage on where to start. I do understand ADSR,and a little of vco
vca vcf and stuff but only the basics, thats about it.
I just need to hook it up to my pc with something so i can start
editing, recording etc.
Thanks for your time and patience but who else can i ask? AN1X forum
seemed a good place to start.
Later.

I would suggest you look over the FAQ to find answers to many common questions:

http://www.geocities.com/jondl_2000/an1x_faq/an1x_faq_toc.htm

You'll want to download a copy of the Owner's Manual, Data List and the Voice Set-up
Guide too. There is a freeware Editor/Librarian - AN1xEdit - also available for download
and many free Voice to download from the Files section of AN1x-list here at Yahoo!
Groups:

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list/files/

Welcome to AN1x-list, hope you enjoy your synth.

Regards,

Jon
