Aftertouch Scaling

Aftertouch Scaling

2008-01-22 by fai31188

Hello! I use my An1x as a lead instrument live. It also does double
duty as a trigger keyboard for my Nord Stage Organ sounds. I trigger
the leslie effect using aftertouch. However, the aftertouch on the
An1x is too light. It triggers too quickly/easily. So, I have to alter
the way I play in order to keep the leslie from coming on.

What are the practical solutions? I know I could buy the Ashby
Solution dohicky and see if that scales the AT messages, etc. Can you
think of any other way to do it?

BTW, the more I use my An1x the more I love it... It has made my other
VA's almost obsolete (Virus B, NL2x).

TIA,

aL

If you are daring, you can take off the bottom cover of the AN1x, there is a gain & offset trim pot inside the AN1x on the key contact circuit board. They are interactive controls where the offset is the overall sensitivity to after touch while the offset is to minimize the jump in the modulation parameter you are contolling when the aftertouch first kicks in.....I did this to my AN1x after it came damaged and I had to replace some keys.....

The MIDI scaling is another possiblity but these pots are there because age & wear will change the aftertouch.....

Bob,

Thanks for your suggestions. I did not know that these trim pots existed.

A quick clarification: You used the word "offset" to describe both
pots. I assumed you meant to say the "gain" pot is for the overall
sensitivity of AT and "offset" is for minimizing the jump in
modulation parameter. Am I right?

I guess I have two questions: Do I need to remove anything other than
the bottom cover to reach these trip pots?

TIA,

aL

Yes, separate gain & offset pots.

I seem to remember that once I reassembled the AN1x key assembly after replacing keys, I could access the pots from the bottom with the bottom cover removed....it was about a year ago so my memory is not that sharp about it....
