Re: [AN1x] Re: Midiclock

Just to follow up on this....a little history....not all synths transmit MIDI clock, only about half of my dozen synths do. In general, early synths have left the clock master to the drum machines & recorders and let the synths sync to those. Later synths that joined the class of "workstations" provided a MIDI clock to external devices as the workstations had internal MIDI sequencers. Many non-workstations still rely on having an external MIDI clock if they were to sync to an external device.

The work around to have the AN1x receive external MIDI clock is a good viable alternative.

The AN1x does not transmit MIDI Clock. You can synchronize the AN1x Arp/Seq to an
external clock - such as a drum computer - but not the other way around (as you've found.)

Its best to use the AN1X as a slave to MIDI clock i.e use your drumcomputer as the master clock and set the temp of the AN1X to MIDI.

Strangley the AN1X won't respond to MIDI start so the way to get around this is to hold down a key on the AN1X then press play on the main clock source and everything should spring into life.

A word of warning tho if your patch uses the tempo delay it sometimes can a bit tempremental and and trys to corrects the timing which resulting in little crackles as the delay keeps reseting itself.

This was supposedly fixed in OS V1.04 for the AN1x.

I didn't know they did an update for the OS!

Could someone please upload it into the file section of this DG? The Yamaha sites have nothing on them.

Thanks

The upgrade is available from Yamaha. It is on a M27C800 EPROM.

I think I paid about $40.00 USD each from Yamaha Parts for both of mine.

Bob:

Yes the AN1x will display the ROM version.

You need to put it into Diagnostic mode:

I think below you actually want to press, I think, 1, 2, 3 to go into
Diagnostics. Not 7, 8, 9.

Give that a try first. I don't have an AN in front of me right now.

You definately need the latest EPROM though. It fixes a lot of things.

AN1X Factory Reset/Test Procedure:

Press [7] [8] and [9] in the "Program Change" pad and power up.

Follow the menus to reload the O/S and Voice selections

I think my AN1x was still under warranty when the update was released, but $40 was the
going rate some time ago as posted to AN1x-list.

Check the Photos section, and maybe the Filess ection - there might be write up and some
pics for opening up the AN1x for th eeprom install. It's not a complicated procedure.

My mistake. I was operating from memory.

To do a factory reset:

Power Off

Hold down [7] [8] [9] and power on. This will bring up a menu of
various reset types.

To go in Dianostics mode and find out the ROM Revision:

Power Off

Hold down [0] [-] [+] and power on. This will bring up the ROM
Revision and put you into diagnostic mode to test all of the
functions, knobs, keys, etc, etc. You can just power off at any time
when in this mode without any effect.

Peter

Ok just installed the new 1.04 OS chip (which took a day to get to me from Yamaha parts for £17) and the first thing I've noticed is that the sequencer will now respond to MIDI start stop without having to keep you finger pressed down on a key. The tempo delay works without a glitching.

Does anyone know of the full list of fixes for V1.04?

Thanks
Rob.

It's been some time since I corresponded with Yamaha Tech Support regarding v1.04.

I inquired:

<< it's my understanding the v1.04 OS corrects an erroneous 'low voltage' warning which
can occur prematurely and that it also corrects the audio response when modulating the
depth, i.e., return, of delay effects. Is this correct? >>

They replied:

"Version 1.04 does correct the symptoms you described."

So, AFAIK the MIDI Start/Stop issue you've brought forth as an issue is the third fix
addressed by v1.04. To be honest, I'd never noticed it before you mentioned it :-)

You are the first to report this, Rob.
As far as I know, Yamahaha never released any info for the ROM upgrade.
It was labeled as a bug fix with no further info.

Hello Rob. Can I have aquestion for you? I have An1x with 1.02 OS and I have a problem with sync. WhenI set Tempo of arpeggiator to MIDI and record some part, recorded notes are noton exact position determined by quantize grid. The timing of arpeggio is shuffling. The timing is not accuracy straight with midi click. Some notes are delayingsome go before the quantize grid. My friend has a same problem on his An1x. Is thisissue resolved in OS 1.04? Could you check it, please? I am sorry, I hope thatyou understand me; my English is not good\u2026

Check your swing settings. No idea where it exactly is in the

I feel offended by the lack of some people in recent messages,
