You can't just use generic D shape puch on knobs--I've tried. Pity
because all Yamaha has is boring old black knobs.

And, why is that?

Just for the fun of it, I removed one of the knobs from my DMX6Fire
Breakout box. The D-shape fitted the shaft on the AN1x just
fine. The click motion still works (since there's still plenty of
clearing left for the click motion to work on those 8 assignable knobs).
The knob fitted fine on my matrix selector as well...

So, what is the stopper for using general D-shape knobs? Besides the
size of the D-shape ofcourse... it has to fit over the shaft, but
otherwise, hmm? Generic ones should work just fine.

I'm not sure about the sizes and all, but simple measurements go a long
way, in case you have a nice website with shapes. I've been thinking
about replacing all my knobs (since I'm missing 1 knob, and another one
has a broken D on the inside, so it can't quite force the click motion
of the knob, since it just slides further along the shaft)... but that
would quite clearly "un-AN1x-ify" my AN1x :P

the an1x has unusual Dshaft knobs in the sense that the arrow points in
the opposite direction of the D shaft so a "common" knob (arrow-same-direction)
will not work, if u try a knob type with fixing on the top then u will be sure it works
like this one :

http://www1.nl2.conrad.com/xl/7000_7999/7100/7190/7196/719617_BB_00_FB.EPS.jpg

they are more expensive but u can customized the top with different colors
or else make sure u get knobs with the correct Dshaft orientation
