The Yamaha AN1x Synthesizer mailing list

well, sorry to disturb you guys but it seems i can't run my an1x under
cubase sx 2.2. here's what i've already done:
1. i plugged midi cables in the riht places i believe and i think they
work fine because later when i tried using An1x just like midi
keyboard playing with differnt vst instruments it worked fine;
2. then i opened midi device menager menu and installed An1x as a
device ( An1x script is installed inthis cubase by default as you
know) and all patch banks were recognized immediately; i set the midi
output of An1x to be my current sond card (M Audio 1010LT), then
enabled commands option;
3.i opened the project i wanted to play with An1x, i choose a certain
midi track, assigned the proper midi in (M Audio again)then in midi
out menu asigned An1x and i was thinking that's all but there was NO sound
4. it came to my mind that the proper midi channel of the An1x was not
set- well i did it too and again silience- the most annoying thing is
that on the transport panel midi in and midi out activities are being
indicated. from the an1x system menu i set local to be off and device
No to be the same as the track i was trying to use- i don't know why.
But still nothing.
Please tell me what have i skipped, because i really need some of the
fat yamaha basses in my music!

Since your are able to montor the MIDI events for input and output, and you've double 
checked the MIDI Channel settings for the device, the next logical step is to double check 
your audio routings. Have you tried it with LOCAL=ON just to make certain the audio 
output of the AN1x is routed as you expect it?

Yes, i checked "LOCAL ON " position also. I can hear the AN1x since it's routed to a proper input on my sound card. But I thought in order to use an1x as a midi instrument Local should be off. Anyway, now i can record only audio tracks (and i've done it already since i couldn't figure out what the midi problem is) which of course means that editing is slightly  more difficult. But i'm still wondering if i have in cubase an1x script, i have yamaha an1x installed as a midi device and working fine as a midi keyboard (thats a bit offtopic but it shows that the cables are all right), i have set the proper midi track then wht is the problem (not that i won't continue record audio). thank you again

Ok, so you can use the AN1x to play VST instruments, so that shows 
that your input settings are correct.

How exactly do you have the AN1x hooked up? Do you have the MIDI Out 
of your soundcard connected to the MIDI In on the AN1x? 

Just because Cubase is showing MIDI Out activity doesn't necessarily 
mean it is getting to your AN1x.  I would check your output settings 
again.  Rather than selecting the AN1x for output, you may want to 
select your soundcards MIDI output (whatever that may be) Rather 
than looking at the "Instrument" column, try looking at the "Out" 
column. 

Don't give up - MIDI can be a real pain in the tookus, but you're 
halfway there :)
