Bigger Better Fastest Best

Bigger Better Fastest Best

2000-07-29 by Steven Clements

I think we all love, like or cherish our homelands. We all think that our
country is fantastic (except for the politicians who somehow screw things
up). We may all believe that our point of view is, quite obviously, the
right one... I mean come on! Doesn't everyone see things the way ("I") you
do? Hell we could argue about who makes the best beer (please lets not).

American's are lovely folk, there are a few zealots and extremists... of
course this would never happen in Europe or Asia, or Canada, or, you get my
point. Oh and don't get me wrong I'm not advocating for
political-correct-speak. But really ethnocentricity is and always will be
around, just re-read your post before you send it to see indeed if you are.

btw Canada is now the largest country (landmass) with less people then east
London I think and we just happen to be the nicest people on the planet.

Now about that AN1x

LOL...yeeeahh rrrright!...who is now ethnocentric...LOL...anyhow

...noone was really serious here, just kidding around. We are all
just some little creatures, who take themselves waaaay to much too
important, on a small blue planet in a infinite universe that doesn´t
care about our small problems. All in all, we should be lucky that
our planet HAS STILL a breathable atmosphere and so forth, you know
the deal. Go watch some Star Trek and think about it.

Hi Tom,

You can just simply replace the AC Adaptor to one with an input that matches the local power supply, but the same output of 12V 1.0A.

Cheers,

Phil

Great. Thank you guys so far. If it works for the AN1x it should do
also for my other gear. The only problem i see is with my Xbase,
since Jomox used some kind of weird connector. Everything else seems
straight after standard, or does the US power-net use different Hz?
Does it matter?

Yep, it switches automatically between 50 or 60 Hz, whatever you need. (i think
;)

Then buy a US adaptor from Jomox.

Yes we do use a different Hz, but it doesn't matter, all the power
conversion is done in the transformer, which is inside the power supply,
all you need to do is plug the right power supply between your synth and
the outlet and you're off.

By the way, the standard Yamaha 12v adaptor for their synts is model PA-3B.

Tom Asked:

Everything else seems
straight after standard, or does the US power-net use different Hz?
Does it matter?

Hi Tom,

This has already been successfully answered, but I just wanted to clarify that the 50/60Hz difference relates to the oscillating cycle of the Alternating Current (AC) power supply. Once the power is 'transformed' to 12V Direct Current (DC), the Hz cycle becomes irrelevant.

Cheers,

Phil

Sorry, I meant to add at the end:

"...Once the power is 'transformed' to 12V Direct Current (DC), the Hz cycle becomes irrelevant - as far as the synth is concerned."

Thanks,

Phil

Thank you very much, you helped me much further than Yamaha
Germany...LOL...i called them...a voicebox picked up the phone, but
that was it...i guess they have an infinite waiting-cycle for
technical support, at least here in Hamburg.

Still thanks to you too. But what i wonder, what are artist doing
with their gear, when they gig around the world? I guess the big
artists (i don´t know like hm...Depeche Mode?) have their
own "american" power-supply for their stage-gear. But what about all
these less successfull artist who come e.g. from England and gig in
America? How do they convert the power for their built-in AC-Adaptors
in their Moogs, Rolands, Yamahas, Akais etc.?
Do you need to buy sorta power-converter-boxes in each country?
And what does e.g. a brasilian keyboarder does in Australia about the
power-supply?

I'm not 100% sure, but surely there are easily-available 240V-110V convertors around???

No, generally they use their own native power supplys, but the stage crew
runs either generators or heavy-duty poer transformers.

But what about all

The best way to do this is if you're touring, specify in your contract
rider that you need adequate voltage convertors for your equipment (after
all, without the power, you can't play!). Either that, or leave your gear
at home and rent identical gear on the road. If it's MIDI gear, yoiu can
always sys-Ex transfer your patches with a laptop computer or a hardware
sequencer.
