Wow, it's been awhile since this issue was brought up - I don't recall if we determined it
was an intermittant bug, or user error.

Yeah, of course - double check your Ctrl Matrix settings.

Thisi s not a cut & dry RTFM answer. Will spend some time looking through the list
archives, i thought we'd figured this out a loooong time ago.

Am I missing something because I did RTFM?

The manual states that if you have not set A.RbX to Pitch Up/Pitch Down that it will keep
that position at which you have released your finger. Well. it is not set at any place in the
matrix to pitch up or down. And when I release my finger, the damn thing jumps all
around in the middle - anwhere from 47 to 61 generally. (I am reading the MIDI output.)

Has anyone fixed this or tried to fix this?

Thanks,

John

Yes. Disabling it in the Matrix Controller Setup. RTFM.

WTF?

So let's get your "advice" straight - you're saying that if the ribbon controller is not assigned to anything in the control matrix it will eliminate the problem of having it jump back to a center setting when a finger is released.

Great advice. If the ribbon controller isn't assigned to any parameter - OF COURSE it won't jump to center -- it won't jump to ANYTHING AT ALL because it's NOT ASSIGNED TO ANYTHING IN THE MATRIX. Just what page in the manual should I f****** read?
From page 75:
When you select [RIBBON] controller "A.RbX" as the "Source" controller and Pitch
Up/Pitch Down as the "Parameter", the [RIBBON] controller value will be reset to
the center position when you release your finger from the [RIBBON]. The sets
with different Parameters (other than Pitch Up/Pitch Down) keep the position at
which you release your finger.

The problem is that this isn't true. I have many patches that only control the filter which return to center.

Jon,
I'm afraid that this question wasn't ever solved with a solid answer. An obvious experiment would be to A/B a couple of patches; one should perform "correctly" and not return to center and one should do the nasty. I'll get on my AN1x later and see if I can find any patch that performs "correctly".
** One note beyond - I run my AN1x in "mode 2" for the MIDI data because there are a few functions that work better with a guitar synth. IIRC someone said that the MIDI mode may have been the cause of this strange ribbon unpredictability.

Hi Ed!

1. I can play exactly one minute, before I turn off the Ribbon
2. It was one of my first actions at all.... turning it off.
3. Some may not even hear the annormal sound and think how good the Synth
        is sounding :)
4. Assigning the Ribbon to control something other is the same. IT IS
        FLUCTUATING!!!
5. Disabling is no problem, IMHO. Tha AN1-X is w/o Ribbon still full
featured!!!!!! 2Bend Wheels, 8 assignable Knobs etc.
6. (It's Shite). If you have a working one, fine. But as you SEE, many
        other not.

Daniel Mandic

I searched through some of the list archive and found two of the major discussions from
2005 & 2003. I found the part where we had this discussion:

> ** One note beyond - I run my AN1x in "mode 2" for the MIDI data because there are a
few functions that work better with a guitar synth. IIRC someone said that the MIDI mode
may have been the cause of this strange ribbon unpredictability.

but I can't find the thread where I distinctly recall reproducing the error in an exchange
with you. IIRC, chaning the active voice and then back again cleared the issue temporarily
or something along those lines...?!?! Won't have time to test until tomorrow.

Daniel,

I think your problems are probably resulting from a bad ribbon
controller rather than bad software in the AN1x.

I don't experience any "fluctuation" with my synth. I only have to
endure the ribbon returning to center as a default.

Hi Ed!

Your Ribbon Controller works better.
