Hello, I just bought a used AN1X; it is a great synth. It is a lot of fun. But I am having the dreaded ribbon controller jump back to mid point (and other points as well) problem. Has anyone found a fix for this? I do understand that I must not have the thing set for the pitch-up or down. Thank you for your help, John

Follow-up to previous posts about AN1x ribbon controller: I pulled mine (simple mechanical process, remove 4 screws & unplug a flat cable) but couldn't make it work correctly. Apparently the previous owner pressed on it too hard with a fingernail. :-( I called Yamaha parts dept and the correct part name is "Ribbon Sensor" and it's part #VY687100. The bad news is that it's no longer available from Yamaha, not even from Japan. :-( :-( The synth works without it, and I can assign the function to a knob, but that'll take some effort and won't be as much fun. I taped a piece of cardboard over the ribbon "hole" to keep dust out. So, if anyone's parting out a dead AN1x, I'll buy the ribbon sensor! Van near Seattle

You can take a look at: http://www.doepfer.de/home_e.htm they sell synthesizer kits and parts, maybe you can find something equivalent, these ribbon controllers are not "Yamaha specific". But you'll have probably to deal with a different size and connector . Or else try : http://www.synthzone.com/repair.htm http://www.vintageplanet.nl/ http://www.touched-by-sound.com/en/Vintage-Vintage_Synth_Keys-Synthesizer.html http://www.synthrepairservices.com/ http://www.synthmuseum.com/resources.html ....and "fleabay" for a defunct AN1x or 2nd hand spare parts, who knows ? Our beloved keyboard is going old now...but people still play and sometimes repair much older machines. Cheers. J.F. jammie a \ufffdcrit :

Thanks for the links! I checked all those that I hadn't already checked; nothing there now but I'll check back from time to time. The Doepfer site has a bunch of cool stuff. I don't have a production number (whatever that is; there's nothing stamped on the part), I just have the Yamaha part #. This one may well be Yamaha-specific, because it's rather permanently attached to a mounting bracket with screw holes that match up with the associated Yamaha circuit board and the weird-shaped AN1x case. It's not urgent; this is my "backup/studio" unit. The "gig" unit lives in its case by the door. Given its age and its importance to my setup, I like having a backup ready to go. If the "gig" unit goes down I could always swap out the ribbon, but then I'll be on thinner ice. Best bet seems to be keeping an eye out for a dead AN1x; never know what other parts might be needed in years to come. ;-) Van --- In AN1x-list@yahoogroups.com, Jeff <jf.serviere@...> wrote:

ubergvx a \ufffdcrit : > Best bet seems to be keeping an eye out for a dead AN1x; never know > what other parts might be needed in years to come. ;-) IMHO : keyboard contacts and less likely keys, in case of a broken one... But i suppose these parts are still used in today Yamaha (or other brand) keyboards. Cheers. J.F.
