Help needed in locating Depeche Mode sounds

Help needed in locating Depeche Mode sounds

2006-10-02 by lou.kadassy

Hi everybody,
I'm trying to get ready for my first gig, and I need to perform the
two main lines for "Everything Counts" by DM on my mean blue machine.
Just to make myself clear, I need the Marimba sound and the subsequent
Harmonica sound you can hear in the intro.

Now, maybe the AN1x is not the best synth for the purpose, and for
sure I'm not a skilled programmer, but I'm unable to come even near to
a decent rendition.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is there any ready-made
patch out there that can resemble these sounds? Ideally, I'll need a
split-scene so I can play both parts without hassle.

Thank you for your help,
Lou

I think the 'harmonica sound' to which you refer is actually a
melodica, not a harmonica.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melodica and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everything_Counts

Not sure how you'd get that on the AN1x, though. It's not really
designed to emulate real instruments. That's more VL territory than
AN.

If you've got a keyboard/tone module with a bagpipe preset or similar,
that could probably be tweaked to sound a bit closer to the melodica.

You're right! I actually *knew* it was a melodica, honest.
I'm progressing, anyway. HPF and FM seem to do the juob - no quite
right, although maybe close enough for a live show.
Any help still appreciated,
Lou
