Update and New Question re copying PLGan patch to An1x

Update and New Question re copying PLGan patch to An1x

2006-08-14 by fai31188

Well, the good news is that I was finally able to get the editor to
work on my iMac G3 in OSX running in classic mode. It is a great help
to me since I'm a noob when it comes to virtual analog synthesis.

Now for my new mini project: The PLG150an in my Motif es6 has a patch
that I'd like to copy to my An1x. I understand I can do this with the
expert editor but, I don't have a PC. The patch I am specifically
looking to copy is the Lyle Mays sound alike which is named "Maize" or
something like it. I know there are many emulations of the Mays sound,
but this one is spot on.

Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

TIA,

aL

This is good news, congrats.

For the benefit of anybody who was following the previous thread before we took the
discussion offline - the MOTU USB OMS driver for their USB MIDI Interfaces can be installed
under Classic within OS X (Panther) using the FreeMIDI 1.48 installer. The FreeMIDI
installer can still be had from the MOTU Downloads page.

You can use AN1xEdit to communicate with your PLG150-AN by placing it into PLG150AN
Mode - this setting is found under the Setup menu item. You might want to review the
AN1xEdit Help file for the sections 'Using the PLG150AN' and 'FileTypes and Voice Data.'

However, I'm fairly certain you can only Send Voices to the PLG1150-AN, not Request
them. This was a desing limitation on the part of Yamaha, not the software editor/
librarians.

If the PLG patch is a preset the AN Expert Editor has both banks of
presets built in. Copy the preset to the user bank, saved the file and
reopen it in AN1x Edit. This can all be done on the computer, you don't
even have to be connected to the PLG.

Once in AN1x Edit you can send the patch to the AN1x.

That was the easiest thing I've done with the An1x so far!! Thanks
Brian for the great tip!!

The patch came through except one of the two Oscillators sounded out
of tune for some short time before it came back in tune. For those
of you who are interested, it appears that it was a portamento
setting of 40 with a time of 1 (IIRC) that caused this... Don't
really know how that happened, but I solved the out-of-tune thing.

I didn't know that portamento behaved this way though. The note
would start with one Osc in tune and one out of tune and within a
couple of seconds they both would be in tune and would stay in tune.
This would repeat again the next time a key was depressed.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
