Someone should start a business retrofitting old AN1Xs with wood end 
panels and fancy chrome logos.

You're right ! The sound is good but the look is cheesy . With wood end 
panels and a black or dark blue metal case you could have the sound AND 
the look . And i think it is possible for a skilled hobbyist ....maybe 
someone has yet done it ?

well what is ridicules (to me at least) 
besides price look name and balblabla ..
... is the number of knobs in an analog subtractive synth !!
i mean .. gosh an high quality pot is 3 $ !!!!!
just pls .. USE THEM ! and if u don't use them,
don't charge 1300 $ for a mono synth with the UI of an 'almost' DX7 :-)
