Yes, you will have 16 MIDI Channels per port on a multiport MIDI
Interface.  Say you have an AN1x on one port - since the AN1x is
bitimbral you could have channels 1 & 2 going out port one to your AN1x;
and say you have a rack mount sampler that is multitimbral, like an ESI
or A3k, you could have channels 1 through 16 playing back to that module
over the second port. This would give you a total of 18 simultaneous
MIDI Channels.  All current MIDI sequencers such as Cubase, Logic,
Performer, Cakewalk, etc. are equipped to accommodate multiport MIDI Interfaces.

FWIW - I have both a standard MIDI Interface and a MIDIMAN MIDISport USB
2x2.  On the Mac, the MIDISport USB MIDI Interface works okaaaaay for
MIDI Note On & Off (with some apps) but its completely unreliable for
SysEx.  That's true for AN1xEdit and other apps.  Windows users seem to
have better luck with the MIDISport 2x2 but you may want to try it with
AN1xEdit *before* you unload your old MIDI Interface.
