The mod matrix allows you to assign certain controllers(knobs mod wheels, ribbon controllers, etc) to change the sound of your patch. I found the best way to get my head around the mod matirix was to try everything. The problem with an analog style synth is little changes can trash the sound and if you don't know what you're doing, you just get weird noises-difficult to figure out what's wrong. So I'd use all sixteen matrix controllers. I'd get this wall of mush. Then I'd carefully shut things down one at a time, until the sound cleared up. For example you can use the mod wheel to change the oscillator pitch depth to put a little vibrato in the sound. Too much vibrato gives an out of tune distortion (which I like). So look at some presets and see what the programmers used for parameters. While you're experiment if you get stuck, just ask the list. We all love esoteric questions about osc sync and fm parameters. Some common things to modulate. Change the envelope with velocity. Fast velocity, shorter attack. Mod wheel to oscillator pitch modulation. Make sure you set it to affect both oscillator, and set it to the same amount for each oscillator. I use a depth of 7-10. Aftertouch for LFO speed and for filter controls. Modwheel or ribbon controller for filters. There's lots of internet resources. Type synth programming in any search engine. The mod matrix is a lot of fun and addictive. You'll find whole evenings disappear as you play with different setting. Rainbow Jimmy http://www.mp3.com/spaceanimals http://www.spaceanimals.com
