RE: [AN1x] Digest Number 1084

2003-07-15 by David Salter

Hi Jerry,

Although a Yes fan I find the DVD a little to "ponderous", however two
pints you make.

Brislin is a great keyboard player and,

Nothing detracts from a good sound more than over embellishment.

Part of the beauty of Wakeman's sound is that not only had he dialled in
a wonderful patch but by playing it clean, made it sound almost
ethereal, a pure clarity that sends shivers down your spine and makes me
wish I did take lessons as a kid so I could play that well (one of the
down sides of relying on technology too much.

regards

David Salter

Brislin is fantastic keyboardist tackling the parts with ease. One
issue I have with him is a mistake I make myself.

For a number of moogy parts, he made the identical sound, then jazzed
it up with vibrato/filter modulation on aftertouch. This allows you
to be more expressive, but it's funny how it takes the beef out of
the sound. Sound design tip ... KISS.
