There are very few PCI MIDI adapters available these days. Most of the world seems to be moving towards USB to catch both Mac and PC customers. (Dual-platform support was built into the PCI spec, but never really caught on.) There are some good high-end PCI cards with MIDI support like Echo's Layla24, but bring your wallet and first-born; they aren't cheap!

"Known workable" USB adapters is an interesting term. ALL of the manufacturers will tell you their cards work with 2K and XP, and under the right conditions, they are probably correct. I've never had a single crash with AN1xEdit and my MIDIman 2x2 USB under Win98SE, but my track record with Win2K is not as good.

-BW
