I can't speak to the cost of the EX5 update by I expect there are
new features which elevates the cost. This is not the case of the
AN1x update which contains only minor bug fixes.

The OS v1.04 update contains no fix for any 'MIDI SysEx bug.' I'm
uncertain what 'bug' you are referring to? The AN1x SysEx
packets are very large but this is a design limitation (and I use
that term loosley) - not a bug. I'm afraid you're going to be
disappointed if you believe the OS v1.04 update will address
your issues with SoundDiver.

I've found Yamaha to be very upfront with me - I don't think their
honesty comes into play here. From your description it sounds to
me like once they are given the opportunity - they do the right
thing. Besides, how many other FREE services has Yamaha
promoted via the Web, etc. IMO, your statement is not entirely
justified.

??? Do you mean upload an OS Update into FlashROM or burn
an actually EPROM chip yourself? While not unheard of, burning
an EPROM is hardly commonplace. I cringe at the thought of the
average user having to burn an EPROM when you consider how
much difficulty is experience with simple FlashROM updates via
SysEx.

Keeping the old OS unless you have problems is sound advice.
And since I don't believe OS v1.04 will meet your expectations I'd
cancel the order and save the 25 EURO if I were you.

This is incorrect in regards to the AN1x. There is no difference in
SysEx behavior between v1.02 and v1.04.

Likely a configuration error. Have you discussed this on the SD
list? I know Marcus Fritze of Emagic is active on that list. I used
AN1xEdit and Opcode Galaxy successfully with my AN1x on both
OS v1.02 with a variety of MIDI Interfaces in the past few years. I
think you might want to trouble shoot further before throwing
money at the problem.
