While this is possible, the fact that the AN1x has a "hard" (on-off) power switch, as opposed to the "soft" switches used on PCs and TVs, makes me think that it's a true on-off switch, and that no power is available in the off state. Also, the manual states that if the unit starts acting strange, or smells/smoke appear, then the user should turn off the power switch immediately; this implies that the power switch completely isolates the synth form the power supply. Perhaps the statement you are thinking of refers to the fact that the battery doesn't drain when the unit is on?
