Hi JP, "...Can the an1x sound as good in mono as it does in stereo?" Pretty much every synth at the ground level is mono. It is only through panning and effects (eg. chorus, reverb, and of course stereo delay) that the stereo image is created. If effects are added later, I wouldn't be concerned at all by using mono sounds, in most cases. Recording a bassline onto a stereo track, for example, is a bit of a waste of resources. A pad patch, on the other hand, may pan different oscillators left and right to generate a feeling of spaciousness. But as long as both tracks are combined to form the mono signal, the essence of the sound won't be lost. Can the AN1x/PLG-150AN even pan its sounds? If not, then I don't think you'll be missing anything at all by having two cards installed and applying affects at a later stage. N.B. I may have overlooked something in the configuration of your intended setup.
