	Have you tried using the AN1x editor?  Its sysex is fully compatible
with the AN, and has never hiccuped on my machine.  As for Cakewalk and
sysex....  I had to unload  v9.0 from my laptop, since it brought it to its
knees.  Less problems with v6.0, but I still don't trust it fully for sysex.
(Very nice sequencer, though.)  Try MIDIOX (freeware) for sysex if you
insist on sysex.  Your problems may be due to requests of handshakes from
the AN or needing some of the global info to be sent with the patch...dunno.
But the editor, being developed specifically for the AN, handles backups
completely (which includes the user sequences, free envelope generator,
etc.).
