If you want to understand the basics of Subtractive Synthesis, Sound on
Sound have a very good article series called Synth Secrets. If you don't
subscribe to SOS you can still read the articles (except the articles from
the six most current issues) at:

http://www.sospubs.co.uk/sos/regular_htm/sospast.htm

"Synth Secrets" starts in the May 1999 issue.

Once you understand how the different parts of a subtractive synthesizer
work and interact, editing the plg-card should imho be rather
straightforward.
