DMANX, From "10,000 feet," it looks like a DirectX compatibility problem, but not necessarily a DirectX-CAUSED problem. If you are using an older copy of DirectX (the latest is 8.0), upgrading may correct the problem. If not, it's possible that other drivers may need updating, even seemingly unrelated ones like video and chipset drivers. Windows being the complex, interactive monstrosity that it is, I've seen strange software connections before. As an example, I had a Win98 problem with my tape backup, which was tied to my floppy diskette controller, that was fixed by an update to my serial port driver.
