VA's have less poly/multi (in general) beacuse their soundstructure is mathematically more complex and the DSP's need to be more powerful to obtain the same amount of poly/multi. The sound creation possibilties are way more flexible and diverse (in many ways) than most romplers. Romplers like the DJX (or JV1080, cs2x) are basically sampelrs with a fixed set of samples in them. 'All' they do is play back samples at different pitches (this is a very 'rude' generalisation) whilst VA calculate real time the shape of waveform which is a dsp consuming process. and YES inverting in a sampler is ALLWAYS a good idea.
