What program are you achieving 72 stereo audio tracks on?
Also, what sort of plug-in count/type are you achieving?

another comment. NOT TRUE!!!
mac is better than a pc when Pro tools is involved... well if you want to
get 
swallowed up by digidesign mouth go right at it. again i'm doing 72 stereo
tracks of audio with dx and vst plugins without External DSP hardware. no
bulshit. i use mac on a dalily basis also with programs like MAX and other
sound processing languages and it has its advantages but it is not better at
digital audio than a pc.
