just to briefly comment on that... i use primarily a PC for my studui 
production it is a P3 600.
first of, the cpu is not the only component for success there is ram, 
motherboard, and hard disk.  i am working with macs also for production (G4's 
and G3's) to tell the honest truth yeah the macs are easy to use, however i 
never saw a G4 doing 72 stereo tracks of audio at real time without external 
DSP. my P3 does.
windows can be a REAL pain, BUT when optimized properly, and with the right 
HD's and hardware it kicks ass!
