The Yamaha AN1x Synthesizer mailing list

I am completely new to this (and a total idiot). I've been able to transfer .AN1 files between the AN1Xedit program and the synth. I understand that AN1Xedit can "export" a patch set to a .mid file. But when I try and open a .mid file with AN1X edit program it crashes. 

Two questions:

1. Can I use the AN1Xedit software to transfer .mid files to the AN1X?

2. Is there a different program that I can use to transfer .mid files to the AN1X (preferably free or cheap)?

Thanks! I'm having a blast playing with sounds on this beast. I really want to try out these JP-8000 sounds too!
