I'm glad you said that.
Roland makes the system1 which is exactly that. It's a pretty solid VA with the ability to load "plug-out" synths into the physical keyboard. Unfortunately it's more steps than I'm interested in to achieve such a thing. The key bed is crap and there isn't much of an indicator to let you know which position the knobs are in unless it's connected to a computer. And it only holds 8 patches.
I thought I'd let you know your wishes are slowly coming true.

I'm sure it won't be long before we just buy a keyboard with the feel and knobs we like, then just plug in a thumb drive for any sound one can imagine.Jim
