Re: [AN1x] osc sync

2013-12-21 by jammie

its based on analog type fm and not digital fm
so there are no operators
its just frequency modulation of oscilator
like on the prophet 5 which its based on as yamaha owned the rights to the prophet when they brought out sequencial;
jonh bowen and the prophet vs team went to korg a and r developement and created the wavestation
the dave smith team did the sy22/33/35
lfo can control pulse width modulation and its good when used with the inner1/2/3 waves

https://archive.org/stream/synthmanual-yamaha-an1x-owners-manual/yamahaan1xownersmanual#page/n57/mode/2up

page 58... if you havent looked at the manual yet
why not just experiment and figure out...

on page 31 -->

Other parameters available

let you apply modulation to the VCO1 oscillators with

the LFO1 and other waves.

I'm not sure if the lfo affects the pulse with or not ...
the sync master slave fm relationship is kinda hard to understand and I think these are great questions.
I need to read the manual myself to get more of an understanding i guess... but I usually just mess about and find a sound im looking for....
or i guess i just think of it as a 2 op fm synth, the master slave thing in oscillator one is weird at first

Thank you everyone.

Per Sound on Sound magazine: When two oscillators are hard-synchronised, the pitch of the output is equal to the pitch of the master. Is this how it works on the AN1X?

Also per SOS: When two oscillators are hard-synchronised, then if the master frequency is lower than the slave frequency, changing the pitch of the slave changes the timbre of the output. Is that how it works on the AN1X?

So VCO1 is the master osc. If I want vibrato, in sync mode, I would choose fm to affect the master. If I want timbre variation, I would choose fm to affect the slave osc?. So what does the sync mod switch do?

Also, do I need to do anything different if I want the LFO to affect the pulse width of VCO 1?

I didn't see anywhere that the slave osc was a sine wave. Good job finding that out.
