Jeff, thanks for your comments.  I forgot about the factory reset procedure on page 100 of the user manual.  It was nice of Yamaha to include the procedure in the user manual.  Most synth companies don't bother incluing it. By the way, it says that you hold down 7, 8 and 9 in the keypad section while you power up the AN1X.  Then the screen comes up for the factory reset.  You get 9 choices for data to restore to factory settings including just the original factory patches or system settings, etc. You also have the choice (option 9) to restore all data (everything including patches and system settings) to factory settings.

About the battery power level needed to keep the AN1X from displaying "low battery", I remember changing the backup battery in my AN1X some years ago.  The battery did check out using my voltage meter as better than borderline good voltage when I removed it.  So I apparently have one of the earlier ROM OS versions in my AN1X that has this false low battery indication.
