Looks like a solder joint suffering from thermal cycling... IMHO in the audio section of the PCB. First things to look at : the output jacks and the volume pot. Other possible cause of failure : the connectors and ribbon cables. You can clean the contacts with a cleaner fluid sold in electronics stores, mostly in sprays. But if the failure is not at random, neither permanent, but "time related" it means very often "heat related". I suppose that "Yamaha approved" repair shops can still do the job, because i don't think there is a bad chip to replace . But a time consuming examination of the PCB, unless the problem is well known... @+ J.F. P.S. : what do you call "digital fragmentation" ? A kind of "chopped" sound ? An aliasing noise ?
