Hi, The AN1x MID files I have seen are MIDI sequences with embedded SYSEX voice dumps in them, which means they can be sent to the AN1x by any sequencer or ever Windows Media Player. The only sure fire way of checking to see if if a SYSEX dump is for the AN1x is to look inside the file with a hex editor and check that the SYSEX ID numbers match those for "Yamaha" and "AN1x". I've never heard of a MIDI virus before or anybody trying to damage to your system by maybe, for example, setting parameters to something that will fry your speakers. The SYSEX is patch data not executable code. In all the years I've spent downloading other patch collections, I've never had a problem.
