This is of course very sad news, and it gets no better since I first heard last night. Dave Gilmour has a very fitting eulogy on www.davidgilmour.com I play keys in Pure Floyd (www.purefloyd.co.uk) and whilst I don't have a Putney, my Nord G2 Engine (very good at VCS3 and Moog emulations) and PLG150-AN (Solina Strings and the "On The Run" sequence - the AN1x stays in the studio) will be fired up in honor of Rick at the gigs we do on the weekend. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (for its melancholy feel) and Great Gig (for subject matter and the fact that Rick wrote it) will be very poignant on the weekend's gigs. I think a lot of people agree that, as the quiet man, Rick's input into Pink Floyd is often forgotten about in comparison to the two more assertive characters that the band had. But Pink Floyd would not have been Pink Floyd without Rick and the way his textures melded and underpinned all the other musical strands. Playing his parts are a privilege and a pleasure, and I have learnt a few unusual chord tricks along the way. Rest In Peace, Rick, you will be sorely missed.
