Tube amps and preamps could be useful to give the final touch to your quest... In other words : cut off drastically the bandwith , add a little noise and some ripples to the "Hi Fi - extra flat" response curve of your amp.... The frequency response of a real spring reverb, for example, does not exceed a few kHz (not tenths !), is all you want except linear, at high level the springs add their own noise to the input signal ....
