Yes, I can see how the current use of MIDI controller data is much more than when the AN1x was designed. It would have been a nice touch but hey... I just went up and picked up a Midi box for cheap so its not that big a deal... I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a special mode or something I could use before spending money.
