200e layout help

2008-04-18 by cray5656

hi all

http://www.flickr.com/photos/cray5656/2423070376/

here is a pratical layout that I think will give me as clear (patching
wise) system, not having to peal away leads to see what is going on or
to trun knobs etc...what do you think?
As I have never been infront of a 200e would you move anything about?

When you order can you ask for models to be placed specifically? or
are they easy to move after the fact?

only one more thing to sell :-) then i can get on with ordering :-)

Although I don't have a 200e personally, the thing that immediately
leapt out would be that you'd be better placing the quad function
generator and the lowpass gates side by side. If you look at the unit
of the front page of Buchlas 200e site, you can see that there are
small dual banana plug things which directly connect the outputs of
the function gens to the CV ins of the lowpass gates, that alone will
save you a bit of patch spaghetti for sure.

No doubt actual users will come up with some better suggestions.

Re: [200e] 200e layout help

2008-04-18 by JB

One practical thing: the back panel boards for the 227 and 225 takes
up some space, 227 itself is kind of slim so it will fit over the
backpanel. You must have a slim module over the 225 back panel, it is
located under the 222 patch panel in your illustration. I'm not sure
how deep that one is. 281 is very slim (just one pcb) it will fit over
it. The middle boat is a bit deeper than the other two, so this is
only a problem as long as you have the 225 in the top boat.
Next practical issue: On my 225e the flat cable going from the back
panel to the front is kind of short so maybe you will need to put it
in the second column.

But you'll see when you get it. I'm sure you will relocate the modules
a few times before you find a comfortable layout.

Sorry for all the spam here but one more thing. The 281e sits very
conveniently on the left side of the 292e, i suppose you will use them
together most of the time so i suggest that you put them that way.
There is even a special shorting bar that fits exactly between these
modules when you use them the typical way.

Re: [200e] 200e layout help

2008-04-18 by joe Pascarell

hi cray

dont worry about it too much , as they are pretty easy to move around ,
but i would put the 266 in the top row and put the 281 and 292 next to each other with the 281 on the left.
im guessing you got some 261's , but the folder you got the photos from doesnt include the 261. if im wrong , may i suggest you include at least one?
 my two cents.
 good luck , and welcome!
joe

Yes, you specify a placement of modules. They're easy to move with a
few exceptions: the 225e, the 227e and the 222e. These have back panel
connections, so pretty much need to stay in the boat in which you
ordered them. They can be moved within that boat, but moving them to a
different boat requires moving things screwed to the back of the boat.

As far as your layout goes, if it was my system I think I would change
it to something like:
227, 210, 266, 222, 225
281, 292, 291, 256, 250
261, 261, 261, 222 keys

Some of the logic behind this:

The audio is located on the left half of the system, so it won't need
to be patched cross-system to the mixer.

If the 281 is to the left of the 292, shorting plugs can be used
instead of patchcords.

The 222 brains wants to sit in the top panel, above the keys.

---

I'm not 100% sure that the 227, the 225 and the 222 can be in the same
boat. I think there might be some restrictions based on back panel
connections. If this is true, I guess I would swap the positions of
the 225 and 256.

Ok
After advice I have come up with this
http://www.flickr.com/photos/cray5656/2424402504/sizes/o/

Do I still need to move one 162 over so the keyboard is more centre?

Here, by the way, is a source for the shorting bars:

Well, either that or swap the 266 and the 222 brain.

These are better because they are stackable:

Yes and no - you can stack them, but I think they're tall enough to
prevent the case from closing if you leave them connected. I got the
shorter bars for that reason, since I leave most of the 281's outputs
permanently connected to the 292's CV inputs.

yeah, you can't close the cab with them in. But don't forget to use
other cv sources to control 292 and use the 281 for other stuff than
enveloping... With the stackable you always have the option of the
latter anyway. Don't let them stick in there :-)
