these are separate issues.

1) the FM offset is a calibrationthing; flashing the firmware should force a
recalibration but it's important not to touch the module for a few minutes
after flashing.

2) the firmware does indeed impose a dead zone on the mod index, but it may
be a little left or right of the detent. i'm not actually sure why that is,
to be honest. if we make the dead zone larger, some users find it extremely
annoying...
