Subject: Question about Mr. Crow's mad scientist projects...

From: "dscr22" <dscr22@...>
Date: 2006-07-21

Hello, Some time back Mr. Crow posted that he's working on a
discrete mini plug-in to replace CEM 3320 VCFs. I think they were
modelled after SSM filters presumably because they're supposed to
sound better, but would be drop-in's for the more common CEM's.
That might not be 100% correct but something like that.

Anyway, I was wondering if someone had an opinion (like, hopefully,
The Old Crow himself!) as to whether the same type of concept would
be feasible with the other most common CEMs (Prophets, OB's, I think
Rolands and MemoryMoogs too): the 3310 EG and 3340 VCO. As with
other owners of these synths, even with a few spare CEMs lying
around I'm dreading the future 20 years down the road where
priceless vintage relics could potentially become useless boat
anchors.

Note, a bit more on topic here and apropos to recent thread about
getting new chips from Yamaha, this could also apply to our CS-80s.
I believe Mr. Crow has been working on new, fully discrete drop-in
voice cards - which, if successfully completed and made available at
just about whatever price, could render the upfront costs of a new
batch of chips infeasible.
