Subject: Re: [yamahacs80] New CS-80 (old obviously) just arrived to Brisbane Australia

I’d run to the nearest hardware store and get a $10 (or more) multi-meter, set it to 200 VAC range and check the voltage coming out of the transformer!   On multi-thousand-dollar (US or AU) gear that’s been shipped across the Pacific Ocean, I want a little more technical info that “well it hums slightly”!!!

It’s probably the step-down and not the Yamaha.  Depending on the type of supply that was in it, it might not be too hard for a tech with the service manual to rewire the power supply to work on 230v and not need an external step-down.  I know these transformers are big and heavy and expensive, so that may be a better way to go.

Here’s the schematics for all the international versions of the CS80 power supply:

It looks like a pretty simple change of the power transformer winding connections (and a smaller fuse since it’s double the voltage) but I haven’t done this myself.

There seems to be power coming out of the converter, well it hums slightly when i turn it on. I don't have any other 110v machines with me at the moment to check if it is working ok though.

The fuses in the CS-80 seem to be ok. they don't look blown. They are all lined up from end to end horizontal.. though the first on the right is a bit diagonal but not doesn;t seem blown. (excuse my newbiness)

Is it possible that the 75W rated converter could do some damage?

looks like it has had the power supply rebuilt as there is are large modulemaster.com capacitors

on the power board...

good tip about leaving new machines on and leaving them!
