Subject: RE: How did Vangelis do it?

The "phasing" sound is from when the two banks / oscillators are really close together in tune in the same octaves. But not perfectly in tune, in which case the phasing would stop. If yours is in tune (heh!), try carefully adjusting the Detune CH II to get the effect. Other than the great Lexicon reverb, who knows what went on in the post processing.. Touch of eq, volume fades, etc.. basic mixing stuff I suppose. --- In yamahacs80@yahoogroups.com, <nigelc@...> wrote: Hi Laurie, I agree, I don't think the phasing effect is coming from the reverb but from the poly brilliance/resonance as you say. I think there are a few things at play but mostly the modulated opening of the filter per note is the main part of it.

(different filtercutoffs per each note based on pressure) combining the shifting filters inside a verb unit could appear as phase shifting especially if there is a slight bit of overall resonance added to the preset...

I had the overall brilliance at 0 and the sound was tuned using the VCF aftertouch modulation, Sub OSC speed and might modulation amount on the ring mod, low (or minimum) speed, high depth. The attack time and delay settings really helped tune the effect.

I matched them over the panel to tweak and see if the original Blade Runner sound was made by duplicating and altering the preset brass, but any changes moved way from 'that' sound.
