Truthfully....No one who really has bought these in the last 2 or
3 years has lost money...even after paying for the repairs and upkeep.
So you're not Chris Martin where price is no obstacle.....
Matt..I ran the 80V through a vintage Roland/Boss echo-delay
unit...and It filled the rooms sound with a lot of similarities...
It worked fine.I really enjoyed it.....
But did it match the uneartly rumble of analog sound?
Not even close
It was a match to the sound ...not at all a match
to the playing of a CS80.
The grandest low end in my opinion was the Roland MKS80...
it would buckle even the CS80 in its tracks.....
That low end was pure evil.
But for the ambient magic of analog...with both grace and thunder
Not much of a comparison to the CS80 exisits.
I have never paid too much for something I adored....whittle the price
down as best you can. Then decide.
Good luck~ J D

The CS80 is hands down the most wonderful synthesiser ever built. Full stop.
Yet, I would never spend all my money on one and be broke afterwards.. . I would always make sure that I have at least half the sum I spent on it left in order to pay for necessary repairs, spares, and having it calibrated routinely. At 8k of whatever currency the air is getting a bit thin unless you earn big bucks in the whatever industry. And if there´s no qualified tech near you, I´d also save some money on travel costs (like going to England to have Kent have a look at it... and collect the unit again when he´s done ;-) ).
As for which way prices for vintage synthesisers in general and CS80s in particular will go, who knows? I rate them against the pleasure they give me, not their resale value.

This is why I'm drawn to it:

Every time I play a new digital synth it leaves me cold, I need to buy a new instrument but can't find anything I like out there...
Thanks for all the replies. I agree that it's probably too much, even if I got it down to £6k I'd still be uncomfortable with that...
...
Still tempted though!!!
